Evolution Guide

Evolving Pokémon or knowing when to evolve can be tricky — this is where the Wiki can be a great tool.

Unlike most Pokémon games, evolution here is manual, meaning you actively have to tell your Pokémon when to evolve if you meet the requirements. The game UI will tell you when you can evolve and what requirements are needed.

Benefits of Evolving

  • Higher base stats (in most cases)
  • Trainer XP and Dex registration (if not previously registered)
  • Access to new moves (in some cases)

How to Evolve

In order to evolve, your Pokémon needs to be called out (controlled). Then:

  1. Press your team key (T)
  2. Select the Pokémon
  3. Press the "Evolution" button
  4. Choose the stage you wish to evolve to (there's usually only one choice, but not always)

Evolution Methods

There are several ways a Pokémon can evolve: Level, Stone/Item, Happiness, Time of Day, or a mix in some special cases.

Notice: all previous trade evolutions from the official games (such as Gengar) have been replaced with a happiness requirement instead. You do not have to part with your Pokémon — you can go solo.

Level Evolutions

The easiest and most common way. Simply meet the level requirement by levelling your Pokémon and pressing evolve.

Stone / Item Evolutions

Some Pokémon require an item. All items can be purchased from the mart — some marts sell different items (e.g. King's Rock at Training 1, Dragon Scale at One Island).

Happiness Evolutions

Happiness is gained from winning battles and completing quests. The happiness value can be seen on the main stat window.

Tips

  • Pokémon that require a stone or item can typically be evolved at any level — check what moves each evolution stage learns to ensure you don't miss out on anything.
  • Happiness evolutions have a similar consideration: the level isn't a factor, so research the move pools of all stages to find the best time to evolve.

Candies

Defeating or catching a specific Pokémon species may drop Candies. These are valuable items that can boost your Pokémon's stats. Each species has its own candy.
